Newby hails Pirelli after Jack Frost Stages success

Double Manx rally champion Aaron Newby had praise for Pirelli after fighting back to claim victory on last weekend’s snow-swept Jack Frost Stages at Croft Circuit near Darlington.

Newby, with new co-driver John Cope on board his TEG Sport Subaru Impreza, had led before a stage cancellation and worsening weather at the North Yorkshire track combined to leave him in 38th position. Thereafter, the 19-year-old set a string of fastest times on the eight-stage event using Pirelli’s winter tyre to claim a 17-second win over three-times victor Chris Wise (MG Metro 6R4).

TEG Sport team owner Stuart Newby said: “All was going well when a monumental amount of snow fell for the start of SS2. We fitted the new winter tyres that Pirelli had kindly sorted out for us at the last minute and put in a blinding time.”

“Considering we only came to Croft to test the diffs in the gravel car, to then win is a mega start to the year,” said Newby. “Despite the conditions, we managed to not only do the testing we needed, we also tested the new Pirelli winter tyre, which worked brilliantly in the horrible conditions.”
