Bridgestone Ireland continues support for DCU Solar Racing
Bridgestone Ireland has pledged to continue to support the DCU Solar Racing team, at Dublin City University, that are aiming to compete in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in 2027.
The student team recently had a launch of their rolling chassis, on Bridgestone’s bespoke solar racing tyres, in partnership with their sponsors and technical partners.

At a presentation before the car’s launch, Brian Mahon, director sustainability value creation at Bridgestone Europe, presented the ethos and rationale behind the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.
“The race is designed to inspire students to come together in problem solving and innovation and to add to the body of knowledge in the many engineering areas involved in making a winning car,” he said.
In addition to Mahon’s presentation, key members of the DCU Solar Racing outlined their approach to the development of the car including electronics, aerodynamics and team management.
Daire Keogh, president of DCU and Jennifer Bruton, Dean of engineering and computing at DCU also spoke and complemented the students and their supporters, and said that the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge was “one of the most successful and engaging student challenges” that they have had at the University.
“We are happy to continue our association with DCU Racing as they continue their journey towards the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia in 2027,” said Colm Conyngham, marketing manager at Bridgestone Ireland. “We believe that the race is a strong demonstration on how Bridgestone can add value in the world of mobility with sustainable products and social activities.”
Also in attendance was Martin Somers from Bridgestone Ireland’s bus contract department.
