Benefits of Pirelli P Zero winter tyres
Italian tyre maker, Pirelli explains the benefits of using its P Zero winter tyres.
Why winter tyres?
An important consideration when touching upon the subject of winter tyres is that the only thing connecting your car to the road are its tyres. With that in mind, it’s especially important to have the right tyres for the right occasion. Winter tyres are not just for snow and ice, they also can deliver a number of performance and safety benefits on a typically grey winter’s day in Ireland. Winter tyres ensure enhanced and improved performance, compared to summer tyres, when temperatures drop below seven degrees centigrade.

How do winter tyres work?
A combination of tread pattern, sipes, and compound ensures that each Pirelli winter tyre delivers optimal performance in cold weather.
Tread pattern design: allows good drainage of water, thus guaranteeing that the tyre has good wet grip and a reduction in aquaplaning risk.
Sipes: If it does snow then these tyres can trap a large quantity of the white powder. This results in an increase in grip on snow, as the friction between snow and snow is larger than that between rubber and snow.
Compound: a special tread rubber compound ensures the necessary level of grip especially at low ambient temperatures.
P Zero performance in winter
Since making its debut on the Ferrari F40, Pirelli’s P Zero brand has been synonymous with ultimate performance for more than 30 years. The time has come for the P Zero family to face the challenges of winter. The new P Zero Winter, the latest addition to the P Zero range, draws from Pirelli’s winter tyre experience, giving the P Zero Winter both safety and performance in winter conditions.
The world’s leading car manufacturers require tyres for their high performance vehicles that can cope with the phenomenal power and torque that the cars are capable of generating, even in low grip, wintery conditions. Pirelli developed the new P Zero Winter with this in mind, creating a development path that mirrored its summer equivalent and influenced the tyres key characteristics and technical choices.
It allowed Pirelli to deliver the perfect fit through a range of homologated tyres developed in partnership with leading prestigious vehicle manufacturers. The aim of the P Zero Winter is simple: offer owners of supercars and luxury vehicles the same driving experience and ultra-high performance in winter conditions that is offered by the summer P Zero.
