Triangle Tyre develops new bonding solution for giant OTR tyres
Triangle Tyre, represented in Ireland by Euro Tyre Sales, has introduced a new bonding and structural protection technology for its giant off-the-road (OTR) tyres, marking a further development in the company’s earth-mover tyre portfolio.
The first production batch manufactured with this technology has been shipped from Triangle Tyre’s Huasheng plant via Qingdao Port to the Deo Nai coal mine in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam.
Giant OTR tyres are key components for mining equipment such as rigid dump trucks and large wheel loaders, where durability and reliability are essential to operational efficiency and safety. Performance requirements vary significantly depending on operating conditions, and factors such as climate, haul-road quality and load cycles play a critical role in tyre service life.

In regions with hot and humid climates, including some areas of Southeastern Asia, giant OTR tyres are subject to accelerated ageing and increased risk of structural failure. Open-pit lignite mines in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh region operate under particularly demanding conditions, with high ambient temperatures, prolonged rainy seasons and elevated humidity levels. These factors, combined with heavy loads and uneven road surfaces, contribute to higher wear rates and an increased incidence of delamination.
To address these challenges, Triangle Tyre has developed EnsureX Efficient Technology, a bonding solution designed to improve adhesion between rubber compounds and steel cords in heavy-duty OTR tyres. Development work was carried out over a three-year period and focused on improving structural stability under high mechanical and environmental stress.
“The application of this technology reduces delamination-related failures by more than 95 per cent and increases tire service life by over 15 per cent compared with previous designs,” said Jeremy Liu, director of Triangle OTR and Jumbo R&D Center.
The technology is based on a cobalt-free bonding formulation combined with a multi-alloy coated steel-cord adhesion system. A gradient distribution of adhesion layers and optimised processing are intended to improve bonding consistency while eliminating the use of cobalt.
According to Triangle, the key technical benefits include:
- improved resistance to fatigue under high load and repeated deformation;
- increased resistance to thermal and environmental ageing, with reported adhesion strength improvements of more than 40 per cent;
- enhanced corrosion resistance, particularly relevant for tropical and coastal operating environments, with potential benefits for safety and retreadability.
The technology has been applied to 49-inch and 57-inch giant OTR tyre ranges, which have completed on-site testing in mining operations. EnsureX Efficient Technology is said by Triangle to improve integration between the steel-cord reinforcement and rubber compounds, contributing to increased resistance to flex fatigue and a reduction in delamination-related failures.
Triangle Tyre said the introduction of this bonding and protection technology reflects ongoing development activity in the giant OTR tyre segment, where demand continues to grow for solutions capable of operating reliably under increasingly severe conditions.
