New Renault Clio fitted with Continental Tyres

The new Renault Clio will be equipped worldwide with Continental tyres as standard. The latest generation of the compact car will roll off the production line next year fitted with Continental’s EcoContact 7 tyre in 16- and 18-inch sizes.

In both sizes, the tyre has earned top ratings on the EU tire label for fuel efficiency and rolling noise.

The EcoContact 7’s high energy efficiency is due to a new rubber compound and Smart Energy Casing technology. This technology uses new materials in the tyre’s carcass, liner and sidewall to reduce internal friction and lower rolling resistance.

Additionally, the tyre’s aerodynamically optimised sidewall design enhances efficiency. Continental has combined several technologies to achieve this, including the “aerodimple” structure borrowed from golf balls.

Dimples in the sidewall reduce air turbulence behind the tyre, meaning the vehicle requires less energy to keep the tyre moving.

Continental has also focused on quiet driving, with the newly developed Silent Pattern tread design reducing rolling noise. Developers optimised the spacing and angles of the tread blocks to align with the noise frequencies typically generated at low speeds when driving in urban areas.

As a result, the tyre contributes to a quieter ride – for vehicle occupants as well as pedestrians and residents.
