Continental and Pyrolyx agree five-year recycled carbon black supply deal

Continental and Pyrolyx have agreed a five-year recycled carbon black (rCB) supply deal for Continental tyre manufacturing facilities worldwide. The tyre maker says that both parties have been cooperating on developments in the technology field of recovered carbon black over recent years.

Pyrolyx AG is a leader in the recovery of rCB from used tyres. rCB is used both in the manufacturing of new tyres and in the plastics, technical rubber and masterbatch industries.

This agreement is set to address the global challenge of improving the sustainability of tyre manufacturing and materials consumption. Pyrolyx says its expects to absorb over three million end-of-life tyres and to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 25,000 tonnes annually in each plant compared to traditional carbon black.

“Continental is excited to be entering this long-term relationship with Pyrolyx as it underlines our commitment to improving the sustainability of our products and operations. We are committed to innovative, environmentally beneficial technologies for our customers, while ensuring our tires meet the highest levels of safety performance,” said Dr. Andreas Topp, Vice President material and process development and industrialisation at Continental.
