Aetna wins Infinity Tyres Handicap

The annual Infinity Tyres Handicap, now a feature race of May’s Dante Festival at York Racecourse, was this year won in style by 7-1 co-favourite Aetna.

In association with Infinity’s U.K. distributor Bond International, the six furlong (1,207 metres) handicap race attracted a strong field of 20 riders, all aiming to lift the coveted trophy and share in a prize pool totalling over £30,000.

In soft racing conditions, Aetna (ridden by Graham Gibbons) pushed late on and took the crown by over a length from co-joint favourite, Baccarat, in what proved to be a close run contest. The race was watched by packed crowds in glorious early summer weather, as well as by thousands watching live on Channel 4 Racing and global satellite television.

Trained by Yorkshire-based M.W. ‘Mick’ Easterby, Aetna becomes the latest in a prestigious list of Infinity race winners at the historic Dante Festival which traditionally opens the ‘flat season’ in the British horseracing calendar.

Following the race, a specially-designed Infinity trophy was presented to the winning owner, Mr. B. Padgett, by Mr. Jorge Crespo, Infinity Tyres’ European General Manager.
