Yokohama launches BluEarth Geolander SUV

Yokohama has introduced the latest tyre to feature ‘BluEarth’ designation, the product engineering philosophy for environmental, human and socially friendly tyres, the Geolandar SUV.

BluEarth is a demonstration of Yokohama’s endeavours to reduce the environmental impact of both producing and using tyres on passenger cars. It is a cross-product designation, meaning that any tyre carrying the BluEarth logo has been developed with these ideals in mind.

What this means in practice is that the products have been designed to enhance fuel economy through development of the materials as well as the design of the tyre itself.

Yokohama was the first manufacturer to introduce Orange Oil Technology, replacing up to 40 per cent of mineral oil-derived constituents with oil from the skin of citrus fruits. Yokohama’s advanced design and aerodynamic sidewall results in a tyre which is lightweight and gives improved fuel economy over a comparable, conventional product.

In addition, the BluEarth mark also means that the tyre has been developed to reduce noise emissions, both for occupants of the vehicle and the external environment while maintaining superior levels of wet grip and hence, safety.

The latest Yokohama tyre to feature the BluEarth mark is the Geolandar SUV, intended for use as a replacement tyre for urban crossover vehicles and compact SUVs. Yokohama adopted the latest compounding and design technologies originally used in its fuel-efficient BluEarth range for passenger cars. Thanks to these technologies the Geolandar SUV offers passenger car-like levels of comfort, safety and performance for the growing range of on-road 4×4’s and SUVs.
