Triangle proves its high-performance pedigree in Budapest
First showcased at The Tire Cologne in May 2022, the EffeXSport TH202 represents the new generation of ultra-high performance passenger car tyres from Triangle Tyre.
At the ‘EffeXperience’ dealer and press event at the world-famous Hungaroring, located just outside Budapest in Hungary, TyreTrade.ie was provided with the opportunity to see first-hand why this tyre is regarded as a milestone and a great leap forward in the history of the company, writes Eoin Cuttle.

Thanks to its advanced technologies, Triangle Tyre proved that it has been able to bridge the trade-off between performance and comfort, developing a tyre with excellent results in both dry and wet braking, driving precision, stability at high speed and wear resistance. The EffeXSport achieves an A grade label on wet braking in more than half of its range.
The EffeXSport is a modern asymmetric tyre with four wide longitudinal grooves to minimise aquaplaning and additional diagonal elements to enhance the water evacuation. Its innovative profile provides an optimised footprint and together with large rigid blocks, it improves high speed handling and braking capabilities.
The EffeXSport ultra high-performance compound is the result of Triangle Tyre’s latest R&D research combined with the experience collected from the successful SporteX TH201 and maximises the grip in any driving conditions. Triangle’s longitudinal groove mute-technology is ensuring the highest level of acoustic comfort, making the EffeXSport a very pleasant tyre to drive.

On the challenging and demanding asphalt of the Hungaroring – where the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix is held – I got to grips with the EffeXSport using high-performance cars such as the Alpine A110 S, the Volkswagen Golf 8 R, and a Mercedes-AMG A45 S.
Sharp turns, a slippery surface, chicanes and a sequence of corners in quick succession, require significant inputs to be controlled by the tyres. The EffeXSport’s components and particularly the casing structure worked in unison to pull the cars through each corner and guaranteed the best traction to ensure I could utilise all available power from the respective engines, allowing me to perform safely at extreme driving conditions.
Speaking to TyreTrade.ie at the event, Ray Collier, a professional driver at Triangle Testing Department, further explained: “We completed a final sign off, driving the EffeXSport fitted to a high-powered performance vehicle on the Hungaroring circuit on a rainy May day, immediately followed by bright sunshine and a dry track, encompassing all weather conditions a summer tyre can be expected to face is the best way to ensure customers cannot put the tire to a higher challenge than the development team.
“What I was looking for, while driving on the Hungaroring, was the linearity, the driver interaction, the steering response, the torque and the feedback the tire gives to the driver, these a key to an involving drive.
“When braking, to immediately sense deceleration and be able to modulate the pressure to adapt the vehicles response at the limit of adhesion the TH202 gives the driver great feedback from the vehicle and the tyre in unison, this is key to a secure feeling tyre.
“When pushed beyond the limit a structured tyre, such as the EffeXSport, with the ultimate compound must give me the feeling of nice and smooth break away transition and then must naturally recover control in a gentle manner, this is key to a safe tyre.”
“Only when these elements are conjoined the whole balance of the car becomes not only safe and stable then it also becomes enjoyable and neutral, only then can it be approved for customers.
“We want our products to be safe and enjoyable to drive. That’s how we, at Triangle Tyre, develop our products,” Collier added.

The EffeXSport TH202 product line-up consists of 54 sizes ranging from 16 to 20 inches and it will be further enlarged within the end of the year, with the addition of 50 new sizes.
“We are extremely proud of our EffeXSport TH202. It represents the latest development of our Generation X products and will be able to excel in overall performances and the same time to score the highest label values on wet,” Mirco Spiniella, business development director of Triangle Tyre Europe, told TyreTrade.ie.
“The first wave of EffeXSport product line up, made of 54 sizes ranging from 16 to 20 inches is already available. The range will be than completed within the end of the year with the addition of further 50 sizes.
“Triangle is only at the beginning of a journey which will lead the company to achieve a stable position among the best tyre manufacturers,” he added.
