Pirelli confirms motorsport activities

Pirelli’s 2016 UK motorsport activities, which were confirmed today at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, straddle four key disciplines: single-seaters, saloon cars, sports and GT cars and rallying.

While all Pirelli motorsport tyres are designed in Milan and manufactured in Izmit, Turkey and Slatina, Romania the company operates a logistics and technical hub in Didcot, Oxfordshire, which is responsible for supplying support to a wide variety of motorsport championships globally including Formula One, GP2, GP3, Blancpain GT Series and many more.

This year Pirelli UK will support the British GT Championship as sole tyre supplier which is set to last for at least five years. This compliments Pirelli’s involvement in other GT Championships including the GT Cup, Dutch Supercar Challenge and ERS. All these Championships enable the company to showcase the versatility of its products by providing tyres to a plethora of different sportscar manufacturers. Pirelli technicians are on hand to supply slick tyres in medium and hard compounds and wet tyres in the event of rain.

Sticking to sportscars, Pirelli will continue to be official tyre supplier to the Porsche Club Championship, which was won last year by Pete Morris.

In single-seaters, Pirelli will once again supply tyres to the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, designed to propel young talents on the road to future stardom. This year the Tatuus-Cosworth F4-016 car is a significantly more powerful car with a more sophisticated aerodynamic package and increased downforce making it the fastest F4 car anywhere in the world. As part of this agreement, Pirelli will also supply tyres to the MSVR F3 Cup.

New for 2016, Pirelli will also be the sole tyre supplier to the Time Attack Championship using both racing slicks and wets and road legal Trofeo R tyres.

In rallying, 2016 marks the reinvigorated and re-launched British Rally Championship for which Pirelli will be one of the tyre suppliers, and the Italian rubber will be seen on the all-new Skoda Fabia R5 amongst others. Pirelli will also be in attendance at all UK rally championships including BRTDA Rally Series, the RAC Historic Rally Championship, Scottish Rally Championship, Irish Tarmac and Forest Championship ensuring Pirelli tyres are available at all levels of rallying.
