The very competitively priced Novaro range now has an additional five new sizes: 225/55/16, 225/50/17, 225/55/17, 225/45/17 and  215/45/17.

Readers may recall that the Starmaxx Novaro turned in an impressive performance in a tyre test organised by Italian motoring magazine, Autotecnica last summer. The Novaro turned in an impressive performance recording two test “firsts” and a second place.

Autotecnica, put six summer tyres through their paces. The tyres were tested in size: 185/65R15 88H on a Fiat Punto Evo 1 at the Varano de ‘Melegari test track about 30 km southwest of Parma.

The tyres were tested under the folllowing caregories: Rolling Resistance, Wet Braking and Wet Grip.

All tyres were inflated to 2.2 bar at the front and 2.0 bar on the rear. The prevailing air temperature was measured at  8.0 °C, while the track temperature was measured at  6.2 °C.

Rolling Resistance

One of the factors influencing the fuel efficiency of a car is the tyre’s Rolling Resistance. A tyre resists rolling essentially because it deforms when rotating, resulting in a loss of energy in the form of heat. The higher the deformation, the higher the tyre’s rolling resistance, and consequently the more fuel that is required to move the vehicle forward.

In other words, lower rolling resistance means lower fuel consumption and therefore lower vehicle emissions, including CO2.

Wet Handling

The wet handling test was conducted over three “flying laps” to determine the fastest single lap time.

The Fiat Punto Evo1 shod with Starmaxx Novaro tyres recored the fastest lap of 3’20”,  just one second ahead of  its nearest rival.

The testers reported that the Starmaxx Novaro shod Punto Evo1 showed little signs of understeer  on the three laps, with good rear stability, giving the tester a sense of security throughout the run.

The tyre’s assymmetric tread pattern ensured superb handling performance in the wet conditions, with its stiff shoulder blocks resulted in smooth cornering and maneuverability even at high speeds.

Wet  braking

In the wet braking test the testers had to slow the car from 100 to 5 km per hour in the shortest possible distance on a wet track.

The testers put each tyre to the test on five separate occasions, discarding the best and worst result, and taking an average of the three remaining runs. The Starmaxx Novaro came out on top with an average stopping distance, 60 cm less than its nearest competitor.
