ITWRA meets with DECLG officials

The Irish Tyre Wholesalers and Retailers Association (ITWRA) informs that it held a meeting with Philip Nugent and Roger Harrington of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government (DECLG) in Government buildings last week.

Also in attendance at the meeting were public representatives Deputy Robert Troy, TD of Fianna Fáil, and Deputy Patrick O’ Donovan, TD of Fine Gael. Representing the ITWRA was Frank McDonagh of Mileage Tyres and Eamon Daly of Daly Tyres.

The ITWRA reports that the meeting was robust extremely positive as both parties clarified important points. The ITWRA presented a list of questions to the DECLG that have been previously raised by them and by Deputy Robert Troy.

The ITRWA expects that the DECLG will respond to these questions in the coming weeks. The ITWRA informs us that one important key point, that it says will require further discussion, is the current cost of removing waste: at €0.80 to €1.00 per tyre and that this is currently not a legislated charge to the consumer.

The ITWRA says that it welcomed the input from both politicians particularly in relation to the perceived consequences of the proposed full PRI for the tyre industry. It also thanked the DECLG for facilitating the meeting.
