ITIA welcomes penalty point initiative
The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) has welcomed a decision by acting Transport Minister, Paschal Donohoe to apply two Penalty Points and a €80 fine for driving on defective tyres. The penalty points increase to four following a conviction in court.
Paddy Murphy Acting President of the ITIA said: “We welcome any initiative that will save lives and this will, as we saw from the recent RSA study that defective tyres were “the most significant factor” in vehicle-related fatalities and linked to the deaths of 71 people in the past five years.”
