Fleet tyre diameters gain an inch since 2023, Epyx data suggests

The diameter of tyres fitted to combustion-powered fleets and electric cars has increased by an inch since 2023, according to new data from Epyx in the UK.

Information taken from the company’s service, maintenance and repair (SMR) platform shows the average tyre fitted to an internal combustion engine car in 2023 was 17-inches and priced at £109 but had reached 18-inches and £122 by the end of 2025

Similarly, Epyx said electric cars grew from 18-inches and £190 to 19-inches and £214 over the same period.

It also said that only tyre sizes for hybrid cars in the UK have remained stable at 18-inches since 2023 and seen a reduction in pricing – from £181 to £166.

Epyx CCO Tim Meadows, said: “There’s several ongoing trends here – most cars are getting bigger, SUVs are becoming more popular and larger wheels are preferred for cosmetic reasons – that are together driving increased tyre sizes.

“However, there’s no real upside for businesses operating cars. Not only do bigger wheels have a direct impact on tyre prices but also on replacement – larger, wider tyres tend to be more susceptible to punctures and kerb damage.

“This leaves fleets in a position where they are spending more and more on tyres over time and, as can be seen from our information, this is especially true for ICE and petrol models.”
