European Parliament votes on extra year to comply with EUDR laws
Companies will have one more year to comply with new EU rules to prevent deforestation that will ban the sale in the EU of products sourced from deforested land.
The European Parliament today signed-off on the proposed delay to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), with 546 votes to 97 and seven abstentions.
The regulation will now come into effect from 30th December 2025 for large operators and traders, such as tyre manufacturers, and 30th June 2026 for micro- and small enterprises.
The European Parliament said this additional time “is intended to help companies around the world implement the rules more smoothly from the date of application, without undermining the objectives of the law”.
The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) has welcomed the clarity brought by the Parliament’s vote.
“Clear timelines and practical guidance are essential for our industry to comply effectively with the EUDR,” said Adam McCarthy, secretary general of ETRMA. “We are eager to continue working with EU policymakers to find solutions that benefit the entire supply chain.”
