Biggest ever turnout for ITIA Golf day in Wicklow

The ITIA golf day on 8th May in Rathsallagh Golf Club, Co. Wicklow, was a resounding success. The number of golfers taking part was more than double that of previous years, to make for a great day’s sport.

A total 19 teams of four enjoyed the beautiful setting of this family run club.  Rathsallagh is set in mature parkland and received great praise from players on the condition of the course, especially after the harsh and prolonged spring weather.

A shot gun start meant that all golfers were out competing at the same time, which added an element of sporting tension to kick off the day. Despite the forecast, the elements, while changeable, did make for very playable conditions.  Golfers returned from the course quite invigorated from the last rain shower, to feast on a wonderful array of barbequed meats, a lamb on a spit and tasty salads.

The prize giving was a lively event with each competition hotly contested, with many placings being decided on count backs.  The support for the golf day was well up on previous years. IITIA President, Kevin Farrell commented: “we would like to thank all those who put teams into the competition and also to those who sponsored tees.  The course was is great shape and the hospitality in the club house was second to none.  So a big thank you goes out to Rathsallagh too.”

Talking about upcoming events Kevin went on to say ‘I do think the support we have seen here today is a good barometer that the Association is making a difference in the industry.  We are looking forward to meeting members at our regional meetings starting on Tuesday 14th May.  Details for all ten meetings can be found on the web site www.itia.ie”

The team competition was won by Pitstop distribution, who’s team was John Joe Plunkett, Michael O Reilly, David Fegan and Damien O Reilly.  The President’s prize was won by John Morgan, who received the now traditional President’s bowl.
