Michelin introduces new tyre lines to extend EV range

Michelin has introduced two new tyre ranges designed to help increase electric vehicle range and reduce fuel consumption.

The new Michelin Primacy 5 energy and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 energy are suitable for all vehicle types, with both said to combine high performance, longevity and energy efficiency for internal combustion, hybrid or fully-electric vehicles.

According to Michelin, the Primacy 5 energy offers Triple A rating for efficiency, wet grip and noise while delivering up to 70km additional driving range for electric vehicles and reduces fuel consumption by up to six per cent.

The Michelin Primacy 5 energy is available now in 33 sizes from 16-19 inches.

Michelin says the Pilot Sport 5 energy delivers motorsport-derived performance with A-rated rolling resistance and proven endurance at sustained speeds of 300 km/h.

The tyre’s capabilities were proven during the Mercedes AMG GT Concept XX world record, maintaining a constant speed of 300 km/h (186 mph) for almost eight days.

At Nardo in Italy, the Michelin-shod prototype covered 40,075 km, equivalent to Earth’s circumference, setting 25 long-distance records using 850kW fast-charging and 300 km/h cruising.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 energy is available now in 19 sizes from 19-21 inches.
