Kumho offers trio of cold weather tyres
The ‘big freeze’ of 2011 was a wake-up call for most of Ireland’s motorists who, after decades of relatively mild winters, had grown accustomed to running ‘summer’ rubber all the year round. They learnt the hard way that the traction and braking performance of such tyres falls away exponentially at anything below 7 deg C – a temperature not uncommon on a summer night in Ireland, let alone a winter one.
With this new found knowledge and further harsh winters possibly on the horizon, the demand for cold weather tyres is expected to reach new heights over the coming months – a situation Kumho is gearing up for with the following choice of patterns:
Solus Vier KH21 – a highly regarded ‘all season’ product for cars and small vans that features a directional tread pattern for outstanding wet performance, wide lateral grooves for enhanced aquaplaning resistance and multiple sipes for optimum running in snow and icy conditions. Overcomes the need to change tyres between seasons
I’Zen KW22 – this is Kumho’s newest Arctic winter option. Its innovative compound is ideal for snow and icy conditions. Faired very well in tests by Swedish magazine Teknikens Värld
I’Zen KW23 – a contemporary offering for family cars featuring a directional tread pattern for optimum grip. Scored highly in tests by European magazine ADAC Motorwelt
Kumho is an established supplier of cold and all weather tyres for the more traditional ‘winter’ tyre markets of Scandinavia and Central Europe, where its comprehensive range of products is very highly regarded. The Irish range is available from the company’s long-standing Dublin-based distributor, Kings Road Tyres.
