Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Month

Kevin O’Hara from Donadea, Co Kildare, has been selected as the Dunlop Young Racing Driver of the Month for July, for his achievements during the month. He began by setting a new class lap record for Mondello Park, becoming the first Formula Vee driver ever to bring the record below the one minute barrier, on his way to third place.

Three weeks later, at the biggest race meeting of the year for Formula Vee, the Festival, he started the day by finishing second three times, in his qualifying heat, his semi-final and in the Pony Express championship race. Then, in the main race, the Festival Final, 22 year-old Kevin took the lead after four laps and held it to the finish, beating the class champion into second position. He has since gone on to win the Vee race at the Leinster Trophy Mondello meeting.

Kevin has previously raced successfully overseas, scoring three victories in three weeks in the Radical Cup of China in 2009, which included the Shanghai and Zhuhai circuits. His sponsors are Castrol Ireland and Donovan’s Nisa/Today in Maynooth,

The young Kildareman began racing in 2006, spending two years in Formula Ford 1600. Earlier this year, he graduated in law and business studies from Griffith College in Dublin.

Having been selected as the fourth Dunlop Driver of the Month for the 2012 season, Kevin is now a contender for the prestigious Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy. This award is presented annually and is sponsored by Dunlop, the Irish Sports Council and Motorsport Ireland.
