Goodyear and Hankook top 2022 AutoBild SUV summer tyre test

The results of Auto Bild allrad’s latest SUV summer tyre test have been revealed. The German publication tested 10 tyres using the 235/55R18 size on a Volkswagen Tiguan.

Auto Bild allrad’s test team measured each tyre’s performance on grass, gravel, sand, mud and rocks, their resistance to aquaplaning, wet and dry handling and braking, comfort and rolling resistance.

Goodyear’s EfficientGrip 2 SUV and the Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV were the joint winners.

The testers said the Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV offers “very good driving characteristics on all surfaces, harmonious wet and dry handling, short wet and dry braking distances, good ride comfort, and low rolling resistance”.

It added that Hankook’s Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV boasts “top driving performance off-road and on dry slopes, good traction on loose gravel and muddy terrain, dynamic dry handling, short wet and dry braking distances, and is well priced”.

Other tyres tested included the Falken Azenis FK510 SUV, Michelin Primacy 4, Nexen N’Fera Sport SUV, Toyo Proxes Comfort, Maxxis Victra Sport 5, Pirelli Scorpion Verde, General Tire Grabber GT Plus, and Imperial EcoSport SUV.

The Falken Azenis FK510 SUV was praised for its “short braking distances” and “convincing driving characteristics on wet and dry roads”, but offers “moderate mud traction and high rolling resistance”.

Meanwhile, the Michelin Primacy 4 showed “average aquaplaning qualities” but demonstrated “short dry braking distances and fuel-saving rolling resistance”.
