ITIA keeping close eye on Brexit developments
The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) is keeping a close eye on developments in the UK in relation to Brexit and what it could mean for the industry, especially in relation to the impact on flow of stock to Ireland and any potential reduction on levies by the UK for tyre imports from Europe and in particular China.
Addressing the circular economy in relation to the tyre industry is also high on the agenda. Worryingly, a proposal by the European Chemical Agency to ban the use of tyre-derived rubber infill in sports surfaces will impact recycling innovations for the tyre industry, as efforts to build new industries for tyre recycling, shredding, granulation, milling and the production of recyclable products will be effected.
“The ITIA is keen to hear from members on this and believes that debate around this will be important as a final decision on this proposed ban is to be made by the ECHA sometime in 2021. The ITIA is also engaging with the insurance industry to seek clarification on business interruption from Covid-19 and subsequent refusal of payouts,” ITIA CEO, Sue O’Neill said.
