New tyre pressure monitoring system unveiled

UK-based WheelRight looks set to revolutionise tyre management across the commercial vehicle sector, with the launch of a unique tyre-monitoring system that can help the entire transport industry save billions of pounds each year.

With no need for sensors to be fitted to the vehicle, the product enables critical tyre characteristics to be sent to a mobile phone within seconds, without the driver having to leave the vehicle.

A 10 per cent under-inflation of a tyre will result in a two per cent increase in the use of fuel and will decrease the life of a tyre by between eight and 15 per cent. Already saving hundreds of thousands of pounds for customers, the WheelRight product will help to boost environmental credentials, improve fuel economy and cut CO2 emissions dramatically across the globe.

The unit is a sensory pad that is embedded into the road, at a point where vehicles enter or leave a facility. As a vehicle drives over it, ‘in-motion’ monitoring of tyre pressures and temperatures, as well as vehicle weight and axle load, can be analysed and delivered directly to the driver within seconds.

As it is driven over, the product removes the need to complete time consuming manual checks, with the associated risks of valve damage and operator safety. For commercial users a report / work instruction is emailed directly to the depot.
