First preview of fast approaching CV Show 2017
Another Commercial Vehicle Show is fast approaching with the CV Sector in a strong position. And our team from TyreTrade.ie and the Tyre Trade Journal will be there to report on the CV Show for you.
Mike Hawes, Chief Executive, SMMT, told us: “This year’s CV Show is more relevant than ever and we are particularly pleased to see several major HGV manufacturers return to the show. Keen interest across the commercial vehicle market is, however, creating a boom for additional goods and services. Whether that’s trailers, parts and components, telematics, driver assistance systems, fleet management software or specialist conversions, the CV Show is the perfect shop window for them all and a great opportunity for anyone in the transport or logistics industry to do business. I look forward to seeing you there.”
Here are most of the tyre, wheel, and equipment exhibitors and some news about what they will be showing this year.
Michelin to relaunch its most popular tyre range
Stand 5A45
Michelin will be previewing the next generation of its most popular heavy truck tyre range at this year’s Show, with the international launch of the all-new X Multi line-up.
Official testing has shown the next-generation tyres deliver 15-20% more mileage than the current Michelin X MultiWay 3D series, at no extra cost.
Designed to blend the lowest cost per kilometre with outstanding grip in all weather conditions – from the first millimetre of tread to the last – the new tyres will initially be available from April in 315/70 R 22.5 all-position and drive fitments, alongside 385/55 R 22.5 steer and trailer tyres. Additional sizes will follow later this year.
Chris Smith, Marketing Director North Europe – Truck & Bus, said, “The new X Multi regional tyres will offer greatly improved longevity, and underline Michelin’s commitment to ensuring the lowest total cost of ownership for our customers, since they don’t cost a penny more.”
“Regional tread pattern tyres currently account for more than two-thirds of our total sales in the UK commercial vehicle tyre market, and we’re predicting considerable interest in the launch. The double-digit improvement in tyre life is a direct result of Michelin’s significant annual investment of more than £600m in research and development.”
Michelin will also be showing the breadth of its commercial vehicle tyre range at the show, displaying at least 12 tyres on its stand. Among the line-up will be examples of Michelin’s fuel-saving X Line Energy tyre range, which was expanded with six additional tyre sizes in December 2016.
The stand will also feature details of the company’s tyre range for van fleet operators, and Michelin’s CrossClimate tyres for car-derived vans.
Bridgestone to make messages stick at the CV Show
Stand 5D30
Bridgestone can confirm another multi-themed, high profile presence at the 2017 CV Show, at the NEC in Birmingham, with its innovative ‘Tirematics’ tyre monitoring system taking centre stage, along with its newly developed M-STEER 001, M-DRIVE 001 and M-TRAILER 001 tyres.
Bridgestone will aim to create the most compelling stand by a tyre manufacturer for fleets to visit, with its comprehensive packages of commercial support playing a prominent role as always.
Tirematics™ encompasses all of Bridgestone’s connected tyre solutions and will be demonstrated throughout the three-day show in April. IT systems, using sensors, remotely monitor, transmit and analyse real-time information, such as the pressure and temperature of commercial truck and bus tyres.
This technology will be brought to life, as visitors to the stand are shown how a proactive approach to tyre maintenance reduces vehicle downtime and roadside breakdowns, while optimising tyre life and fuel economy.
Bridgestone’s commercial sales director Greg Ward said: “Tirematics is a practical, cost effective fleet oriented solution with great impact on tyre performance, fuel economy and breakdown prevention. We are excited to be able to show this technology off to a wide audience at the CV Show.”
In addition, Bridgestone’s newest line-up of On/Off tyres will represent the highest profile products on display by the company at the NEC.
They have the durability to perform in a wide variety of surface conditions from asphalt and gravel to sand and mud, while demonstrating a high resistance to cutting, chipping and other forms of accidental damage.
Bridgestone’s new On/Off range delivers also excellent mileage as well as great traction and grip. This is key to meet the challenges of today’s operators, who drive more and more in mild and medium On/Off conditions such as those in construction and excavation works.
Meanwhile, Bridgestone’s Total Tyre Care fleet offering will be celebrated once more, which continues to be tailored to meet the needs of every commercial fleet operator and is quite unlike anything else on the market.
The three tyre management pillars: Total Tyre Life, Total Tyre Services and Total Tyre Systems underpin the overall proposition, which continues to define Bridgestone as a market leader.
Greg added: “The CV Show is one of the biggest events in our calendar and we always strive to position ourselves as market leaders in the commercial vehicle world. We hope to see a number of established contacts at the stand, whilst forging a number of new relationships in the process.”

Tread Reader devices from Sigmavision
Stand 4F65
Sigmavision is to promote its TreadReader technology to the commercial sector when it exhibits at The Commercial Vehicle Show next month. It says that TreadReader “addresses the shortcomings of traditional dip gauges and other spot-measurement or laser-line devices currently available.” Each product in the range, which includes mobile and fixed workshop options, creates a 3D scanned image showing a 50mm band across the full width of the tyre. Sigmavision adds that its scans are reliable and accurate even on wet and dirty tyres.
With mobile inspection and repair services now widespread alongside traditional workshop servicing, commercial vehicle service providers and vehicle manufacturers are improving tyre management to eradicate as much unplanned downtime or emergency maintenance as possible. To achieve this accurate measurement of tyre wear and tread depth is critical, and needs to be carried out swiftly. The recorded data should be captured electronically and presented to the fleet operator in a meaningful way; ideally integrated into an electronic vehicle health check report. The data can then be used for planned or immediate tyre replacements, or corrective action, such as tyre rotation or wheel realignment.
Available as a hand held scanner, or drive over ramp, TreadReader technology aims to offer a full solution for workshops and mobile technicians. The hand held scanner is fully portable, operated via a TreadReader app, and is suited to mobile servicing, or workshops where space is more limited. For larger workshops, where volumes are greater and a fully automated process is required, the drive over ramp can be more suitable.
Andrew Pryce, managing director of Sigmavision, commented: “TreadReader is the tyre measurement technology that operators for all fleets, whether cars, LCV or HGV, should be expecting from their service providers. Whilst the service providers who make use of the TreadReader technology will soon find themselves with a compelling and competitive advantage when looking to win new clients and service contracts.”
