With the end of the TT Festival in August, Avon Tyres celebrated a successful season supporting the road racing scene in Ireland and the Isle of Man.<\/p>\n

\nThe highlight of the year for the Wiltshire-based firm, Britain’s only motorcycle tyre manufacturer, was the clean sweep of top spots at the 500cc Classic TT in August. With a cunning mix of modern construction and compounds, in classic sizes, Avon’s AM22 cleaned up, helping Ian Lougher to victory with a final lap of 111mph, which is astounding on a 500cc bike restricted to 110-width tyres.

\nThe smaller classic classes also saw Avon success, with the firm’s tyres equipping the top two in the 350\/250 Classic race. This included Lee Johnston smashing the 350cc lap record with a 105 mph second lap on his Avon shod MV Agusta.

\nThe Classic TT is a chance for many of the legendary riders of today to ride the legendary bikes of yesteryear. John McGuinness, Ryan Farquhar and Michael Rutter were all leading the 500cc race at one stage, before retiring from the race with mechanical woes. All were riding on Avon’s legendary classic racing tyres.

\nAvon performed well on more modern machinery too. Uniquely, Avon tyres were used in each of the nine classes at the 2014 Isle of Man TT in June, from the Lightweight bikes, through Sidecars to the Senior class. The result was two wins and a full podium at the sidecar race.

\nLater in the year, Avon took a third place in the newcomer Supertwins round at the Manx Grand Prix, and that\u2019s on top of impressive results all across the whole of Ireland in that island’s road-race season.

\nFollowing a very successful year on the Irish Roads, Ian Morrell finished with a fantastic win at the Ulster GP in the 400cc Supersport. Shod with Avon 3D Ultra Xtreme tyres, Morrell recorded this International win on his 400cc Kawasaki.
