{"id":8651,"date":"2014-06-23T11:00:23","date_gmt":"2014-06-23T10:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/?p=8651"},"modified":"2014-06-23T11:05:11","modified_gmt":"2014-06-23T10:05:11","slug":"tyre-campaigner-for-tyretalk-seminar-at-brityrex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/index.php\/tyre-campaigner-for-tyretalk-seminar-at-brityrex\/8651","title":{"rendered":"Tyre campaigner for TyreTalk seminar at Brityrex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Frances Molloy, the prominent tyre legislation campaigner who is lobbying the UK government to change the law on the sale and fitting of over age tyres, has been announced as a speaker at the TyreTalk seminars at this October\u2019s Brityrex International exhibition in Manchester. <!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/index.php\/tyre-campaigner-for-tyretalk-seminar-at-brityrex\/8651\/frances-molloy\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8661\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8661 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Frances-Molloy.jpg\" alt=\"Frances-Molloy\" width=\"200\" height=\"235\" \/><\/a>TyreTalk is a complimentary and comprehensive seminar in which industry experts discuss contemporary issues and challenges.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2012 Mrs Molloy\u2019s 18-year old son Michael was killed in a coach crash in Surrey caused by a blowout of a second-hand 19.5 year old tyre.\u00a0 Michael died along with fellow passenger Kerry Ogden, 23 and the driver, Colin Daulby.<\/p>\n<p>There is currently no law preventing the fitting of tyres because of their age, which is a loophole she is determined to close by raising the profile of the issue with politicians, ministers, motoring authorities and the tyre industry.<\/p>\n<p>Among many others, she has met with Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, and is credited with the Department of Transport (DfT) issuing updated guidance strongly recommending that tyres over 10 years old should not be fitted to the front axles of buses and coaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m grateful that many people in the tyre industry, including the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA), have supported my calls to change the law on over-age tyres, so it will be a great opportunity to spread the word further at Brityrex,\u201d she says. \u201cI will not rest until the law is changed to make sure no other family has to go through the truly awful experience of those of us affected by this tragic but avoidable accident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Molloy, who is chief executive of Health@Work and Chair of Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust, will describe the impact of the crash on her family, the public inquiry into the accident, the coroner\u2019s report and her meetings with politicians.
