Michelin made the call after research by TyreSafe concluded that young drivers are at greater risk of being involved in a tyre-related accident than older motorists.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/index.php\/michelin-issues-yule-tyre-appeal\/6516\/image-converted-using-ifftoany\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6517\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6517\" alt=\"Image converted using ifftoany\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Michelin-Christmas.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Michelin-Christmas.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Michelin-Christmas-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>A survey by the UK tyre safety organisation found that more than a third of drivers aged between 18 and 25 had never checked their tread depth \u2013 and two thirds had not checked their tread within the last month.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, a quarter confessed they had never checked their tyre pressures, with three out of five admitting they had not checked them in the last month.<\/p>\n<p>Tyre manufacturer Michelin is calling on parents to help their children stay safe on the road.<\/p>\n<p>Malcolm Scovell, Commercial Director for Michelin in the UK and Ireland, said:\u00a0\u201cThe TyreSafe research was carried out in the UK, but I would be amazed if the same patterns didn\u2019t apply to young drivers in Ireland<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a real worry, because ignoring tyre maintenance costs lives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrivers who have passed their test this year may well be asking parents for upgraded in-car entertainment equipment or other accessories this Christmas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore parents splash out on fancy speakers and the like, though, I would urge them to look at their children\u2019s tyres. Are they up to the job or are they putting new drivers at risk?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood quality tyres may not be as easy to gift wrap as a set of speakers, but they will help keep your loved ones safe for a long time to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parents can find out which tyres are suitable for their children\u2019s vehicles by using Michelin\u2019s tyre selector at www.michelin.co.uk<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parents of new drivers are being urged to consider buying tyres for their children this Christmas.
