The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) has called \u201cfor a balanced approach that considers both environmental sustainability and the practical realities faced by industry members\u201d, in relation to the forthcoming expansion of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ITIA\u2019s recent Annual Dinner at the Killashee Hotel in Naas, Co. Kildare, CEO Sue O\u2019Neill reassured attendees that the ITIA is actively engaging with stakeholders to ensure that any changes to the scheme are fair, workable, and effectively implemented.<\/p>\n

Another key theme of the evening was road safety, a crucial concern for the tyre industry and wider community. The ITIA continues to work closely with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Si\u0301ocha\u0301na to promote awareness and action on tyre safety, speed regulations, and vehicle maintenance.<\/p>\n

O’Neill said: \u201cThe presence of RSA CEO Sam Waide and Superintendent Thomas Murphy from the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau highlighted the strong collaboration between the industry and law enforcement. Their participation reinforced the importance of working together to enhance road safety initiatives and protect both drivers and roadside technicians.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stefan Hay, CEO of the NTDA, was in attendance, reinforcing the strong collaboration between the ITIA and its UK counterpart. The importance of international cooperation in improving industry standards and safety regulations was a key takeaway.<\/p>\n

Looking to the year ahead, O\u2019Neill commented: \u201cThe challenges facing the tyre industry remain pressing. Rising operational costs, evolving consumer expectations, and labour shortages all demand innovative solutions.<\/p>\n

“ITIA\u2019s ongoing work with the Westmeath Education and Training Board, its advocacy for REACT certification, and its commitment to sustainability initiatives all underscore the association\u2019s determination to lead the industry forward.<\/p>\n

“This year’s conference provided a platform for meaningful discussions and practical solutions for the tyre industry.<\/p>\n
