Continental has appointed Tarik G\u00f6rg\u00fcn has its new UK and Ireland managing director, effective from March 1, 2022.<\/p>\n

The 42-year-old takes over the role from David Smith, who will retire as Continental Tyre Group MD at the end of March.<\/p>\n

Tarik joins Continental Tyre Group with over 16 years of international experience in the tyres division. He started his career at Continental within research and development in Hanover, Germany.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has held various managerial positions in the consumer and commercial vehicle tyre areas before progressing into commercial roles in original equipment.<\/p>\n

For the last four years Tarik has been based in Japan as head of OE tyres Japan and global key account manager for Honda and Subaru, directing commercial activities among the Americas, EMEA and APAC regions.<\/p>\n

David Smith has been at Continental for almost two decades, having joined Continental Tyre Group in 2003 as finance director before becoming managing director in 2007.<\/p>\n

During his tenure as MD, the company has achieved significant growth. The tyre maker says Smith\u2019s leadership has been integral in the successful integration of both Bandvulc and R&J Strang into the business which has helped to further strengthen Continental\u2019s commercial fleet offering throughout Ireland and the UK.<\/p>\n

He has also supported the reintroduction of Continental\u2019s agricultural tyres into the market over the last few years which is enabling the company to meet its growth ambitions for the sector.<\/p>\n

Speaking on his time at Continental, David Smith said: \u201cContinental is a fantastic company, and it has been a privilege to lead the UK and Ireland business over the last 15 years.<\/p>\n

“I have been humbled by the talent and commitment of our people, and their passion for creating a truly customer-driven company.<\/p>\n

“I am immensely proud to be part of the 150 years of success Continental has achieved and of the enormous progress we have made over the years.”<\/p>\n

Commenting on his new role, Tarik stated: \u201cIt is a huge honour to be appointed managing director for Continental Tyre Group. I\u2019m eager to build on David\u2019s success and lead the team into an exciting new chapter of the business.<\/p>\n
