<\/p>\nGo-Ahead has extended its long working relationship with Michelin, committing to a further three-year Effitires contract with the tyre manufacturer\u2019s Services & Solutions division.<\/p>\n
The deal with one of the UK\u2019s largest providers of public transport was secured thanks to the quality of Michelin\u2019s products and high standards of service, according to the French tyre maker.<\/p>\n

As part of the new agreement Michelin will produce annual reports on how the carefully managed tyre policy is helping Go-Ahead meet key sustainability criteria, including a reduction in raw material usage, waste and CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n
Jim Collins, group chief engineer, Go-Ahead, said: \u201cThere was really no reason to look elsewhere. During our long and successful relationship with Michelin, the service has always been to the high level we would expect, and the product is excellent.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the past few years, our business has done a lot of work on decarbonisation, with a clear plan for the group as a whole and Michelin has always played a part in that. The two companies\u2019 environmental credentials are very much aligned and that\u2019s hugely important to us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michelin says it operates on stringent development principles which begin with supporting sustainable rubber production, an annual research and development fund totalling more than \u20ac600m to help its products cut CO2 emissions and reduce fuel consumption, as well as promoting initiatives to reduce, reuse, recycle and renew commercial vehicle tyres.<\/p>\n
The new deal will cover around 99 per cent of Go-Ahead\u2019s expanding 6,000-strong bus fleet, operating from more than 50 depots around the country, with the Effitires contract offering a combination of outsourced tyre procurement, expert management solutions and a predictable tyre budget linked to fleet activity.<\/p>\n
Go-Ahead will utilise Michelin\u2019s dedicated team of tyre management operatives working together with its own in-house workshop technicians to ensure its fleet stays on the road and hits targets for safety, reliability, tyre longevity and regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n
Michelin will fit predominantly urban bus tyres across the fleet, including the new X InCity EV Z \u2013 Michelin\u2019s first range of bus tyres specifically designed for electric vehicles (EVs).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe currently have nearly 300 EVs across the group \u2013 with the majority working in London \u2013 but we expect that to increase quite dramatically over the next few years,\u201d Collins added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a strategy to have a zero-emission fleet by 2035 and electric and hydrogen vehicles are obviously going to play a prominent part in that, so to have a tyre designed specifically for EVs is hugely beneficial.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
