{"id":29069,"date":"2021-01-27T17:20:02","date_gmt":"2021-01-27T16:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/?p=29069"},"modified":"2021-03-12T17:12:36","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T16:12:36","slug":"defective-tyres-continue-to-be-a-common-sight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/index.php\/defective-tyres-continue-to-be-a-common-sight\/29069","title":{"rendered":"Defective tyres continue to be a common sight on our roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The reporting of motorists being penalised by Garda\u00ed for travelling on defective tyres seems to be a regular fixture here on TyreTrade.ie.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It truly baffles me that so many people in this country seem to think it is acceptable to drive a vehicle with unroadworthy tyres.<\/p>\n<p>The tyre is the only part of a vehicle that makes contact with the road, so having safe, appropriate tyres fitted to your vehicle is essential. It seems obvious, but this message appears to be falling on so many deaf ears.<\/p>\n<p>If you drive with damaged or worn tyres, you are putting your own life and the life of others at risk.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) claims that defective tyres are a contributory factor to approximately 14 road deaths every year in Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>It also says that each month, 8,500 vehicles are classified as being dangerously defective for &#8220;tyre tread&#8221; and &#8220;tyre condition&#8221; across the NCT and CVRT testing systems. This is simply not good enough.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, Garda\u00ed in Elphin, Co Roscommon stopped the driver of a vehicle with a bald front tyre.
