With a name like Clifford Bryn Jones, he could have played rugby for Wales but there were at least three reasons why he did not. Cliff Jones isn\u2019t Welsh, he’s English. He isn\u2019t a rugby man either, and as it has transpired, he was not one for short careers.<\/p>\n

Instead in 1969, at the age of 22, Cliff started his career at Leeds-based Rema Tip Top, selling tyre repair materials to the garage and bicycle shop trades. He was to become the consummate company man. 40 years later, when most are looking closely at retirement Cliff became Managing Director of Rema Tip Top Automotive Limited, in January 2009.<\/p>\n

Previous to joining Rema Tip Top, Cliff served an apprenticeship as a TV engineer studying radio theory and techniques. He then spent five years in the Merchant Navy.<\/p>\n

Last April (2020), he celebrated 51 years service with the company that dominated his working life.<\/p>\n

Cliff\u2019s experience with people from all walks of life in his formative years provided a perfect foundation for his subsequent journey into the world of sales and management. An endearing manner and natural way with people are testament to his success and it\u2019s easy to see why Cliff has been an outstanding asset to the company which he has served flawlessly for 51 years.<\/p>\n

Now an honorary life member of the NTDA (National Tyre Distributors Association), Cliff has witnessed a huge industry transformation ranging from the popularisation of the radial tyre through to the adoption of TPMS and connected tyre technology today. A natural affinity to the business and automotive aftermarket, Cliff has always been a keen advocate of new product innovation, technological evolution and the ability to adapt to market forces.<\/p>\n

In 2013, Cliff negotiated Rema Tip Top Automotive UK’s new distribution agreement with Corghi SpA covering England, Wales and Scotland. According to the company, the deal pairs the international Corghi range of workshop equipment with Rema Tip Top\u2019s portfolio of consumables and workshop tools for the first time.<\/p>\n

At the time Cliff commented: \u201cThis new business relationship represents a key moment in the history of our company. We have maintained a long held admiration of the Corghi brand and always felt that it could add real value to the service provision at Rema Tip Top automotive UK.<\/p>\n

In 2015, he oversaw the company Rema Tip Top open its new tyre repair and garage equipment training centre. The new centre provides accreditation for the new generation of tyre technicians, with an expanding variety of courses delivered over one or two days. “A well-equipped and highly professional facility we will provide an invaluable resource for our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s fair to say that Cliff was a man that believed in quality and he searched that out in additional product lines to deliver value for his company and customers alike. A prime example would be Rema Tip Top UK Ltd has worked with K-Tools International Limited to supply the UK and Irish automotive market with a superb array of impact tools from Taiwanese manufacturer Kuani.<\/p>\n

Cliff Jones, said back in 2007: \u201cIt is this emphasis on quality and affordability which our well informed customers recognise. Continued and repeat purchasing of this brand, allied to the fact that this is one of our fastest moving lines bears complete testament to the success of the Kuani tools and the excellent support of our business colleagues, K-Tools International Limited.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having successfully navigated his half century at REMA TIP TOP, Cliff announced that he would be retiring at the end of this month (August). This will mark a new chapter in Cliff\u2019s life and he\u2019s sure to reflect on an incredible contribution to the company and the great many people that enjoyed his friendship over those years.<\/p>\n

His colleagues recognise that he leads by example, driven by an \u201cinextinguishable passion and burning desire for success, unfazed by hard work, excited by challenge and resilient in adversity.\u201d He had an endearing manner and natural way with people and combined with his obvious flair for sales, made him a great asset to any business.<\/p>\n

Rema Tip Top UK celebrated Cliff\u2019s service with a special gathering of employees, where Cliff was presented with gifts from his colleagues and German parent company Rema Tip Top AG to recognise this landmark event.<\/p>\n

Mark Insley, Chief Executive of Rema Tip Top Holdings UK Limited stated, \u201cDuring his time with Rema Tip Top, Cliff has made countless good friends and associates within the trade and I know that these people together with all Cliff\u2019s colleagues here at Rema Tip Top would like to congratulate Cliff on his incredible contribution to he company and furthermore wish him well as he looks forward to a well earned retirement\u201c.<\/p>\n

Rema Tip Top Automotive features the brand line: \u201c One Brand \/ One Source \/ One System. \u201c In Cliff Jones, it can be fully assured they also had: \u2018One Great Company Man\u2019<\/p>\n

We will miss meeting Cliff at trade shows, and tyre trade events, including many nice memories of his many visits to Ireland, which he seemed to enjoy. And I\u2019m sure that was after topping up his order book. Congratulations Cliff on a great work innings, always a gentleman and a pleasure to do business with.<\/p>\n

With a passion for family life, golf, football, guitar and his dogs, Cliff will inevitably look forward to enjoying the outdoors and spending more time with his family.
