For each Michelin casing returned and accepted for Remix, the Manx Government receives a credit in its casing bank \u2013 allowing it to fit a Remix tyre the next time one of its vehicles needs new rubber.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23450\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23450\" style=\"width: 2936px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cvworkshop.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Michelin-Isle-of-Man-bus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2936\" height=\"2181\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23450\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michelin Remix tyres are also being used across all 78 of the island\u2019s buses.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Michelin\u2019s Remix process uses 70 per cent less raw materials than manufacturing a new tyre, doubling the lifespan of each tyre casing whilst saving both money and natural resources. All 78 buses and 104 trucks operated by the island\u2019s\u00a0Department for Infrastructure now fit a mixture of Michelin new and retread tyres \u2013 with the proportion of Remix tyres expected to grow as more tyres come up for replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Bates, Head of Operations for Isle of Man Transport Services, says: \u201cWe have a responsibility to make sure the infrastructure on the island works smoothly and safely \u2013 but we also have a responsibility to use public money sensibly. Michelin allows us to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have already seen savings of \u00a320,000 since adopting the Remix policy last year, and this is just the start. As well as the financial benefit, these tyres allow us to significantly reduce our impact on the environment by cutting the number of new tyres we fit, combined with the natural fuel saving advantages of running a Michelin policy.\u201d Bates added.<\/p>\n<p>The Isle of Man Government also takes advantage of Michelin\u2019s accidental tyre damage guarantee. Under the scheme, Michelin promises to refund customers in the event that accidental damage is suffered before a new truck or bus tyre is 50 per cent worn, subject to terms and conditions. The guarantee covers most of the Michelin sizes and tread patterns required by the Government, ensuring its fleet enjoys maximum peace of mind.<\/p>\n<p>The new tyre policy means the Isle of Man Government is benefiting from multiple lives from each new Michelin casing \u2013 new, regroove, Remix and regroove \u2013 with the potential for a worn Remix tyre to be retreaded again through Michelin\u2019s Encore remoulding process.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23451\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23451\" style=\"width: 1199px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cvworkshop.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Michelin-Isle-of-Man-gritter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1199\" height=\"875\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23451\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23451\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 100 trucks operated by the island\u2019s Department for Infrastructure now fit a mixture of Michelin new and retread tyres.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAny concerns we might have had about using remoulds were dispelled after visiting the Michelin factory in Stoke-on-Trent where we were shown first-hand the process that is used for its Remix tyres.
