Michelin\u2019s X Tweel SSL airless tyre and wheel combination will be making its UK public debut at this year\u2019s LAMMA Show.<\/p>\n
For several years, Michelin has sold its range of Tweel products for mowing, agricultural and industrial applications in North America \u2013 but the tyre giant\u2019s fitment for skid steer loaders will be the first Tweel to arrive this side of the Atlantic.<\/p>\n
The non-pneumatic tyre and wheel will be displayed at the East of England Showground exhibition in Peterborough on January 17 and 18, in conjunction with its much-anticipated launch to market this month.<\/p>\n
The X Tweel SSL will be available in two versions \u2013 the All Terrain (AT), which features a deep, open tread for off-road applications and use on varying surfaces, and the Hard Surface Traction (HST), with its smooth tread featuring a 100 per cent contact patch, for frequent use on hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete. Both tyres are expected to prove popular within the UK farming sector, on applications ranging from scraping yards and clearing slurry to moving bedding and animal feed.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the launch, Gordon Brookes, Customer Engineering Support Manager for Michelin\u2019s agricultural division, says: \u201cWe are very excited to be introducing the X Tweel SSL. This is a proven product which has transformed the way skid steer tyres are specified across North America. Its introduction into the European market means users in the agricultural and construction markets can benefit from the X Tweel SSL\u2019s excellent performance \u2013 and without any risk of a flat tyre.\u201d<\/p>\n
The product performs like a pneumatic tyre, but without the risk and costly downtime associated with penetrations and impact damage. It can increase productivity because its outstanding stability enables a skid steer to work rapidly with more comfort for the operator, reducing driver fatigue as a result.<\/p>\n

Its deep open tread is designed for easy cleaning and excellent traction, and a buried layer of undertread allows the core to be repeatedly retreaded. High strength, poly-resin spokes provide high carrying capacity, reduce vibrations, absorb impacts and prolong the product\u2019s working life.

The X Tweel range is manufactured in the USA at Michelin\u2019s plant in Piedmont, South Carolina, which began operating in November 2014. The Tweel concept was developed by the Michelin Americas Research Company in North Carolina.<\/p>\n
\u00a0A smart move for Michelin\u2019s EvoBib tractor tyre<\/strong><\/p>\n Also making its UK debut at LAMMA \u201818, ahead of its international release in February, will be Michelin\u2019s \u20182 in 1\u2019 EvoBib tractor tyre \u2013 which features a smart tread pattern that evolves to match the application.<\/p>\n The tyre \u2013 which was awarded the prestigious SIMA Innovation Gold Medal last year \u2013 was designed to support farmers who increasingly opt for larger machinery to be driven both in the field and on the road.<\/p>\n When set at high pressures for road work, the tyres\u2019 central band grips the road providing the flexible fitments with a road-optimised profile. The adapted tread pattern gives a smoother vibration-free ride, while saving farmers fuel and improving safety.<\/p>\n In the field, working at low pressures, the tyres\u2019 footprint spreads across a wider and longer surface, helping to boost traction while preventing soil compaction. The patented technology was developed by Michelin\u2019s 6,700-strong team of R&D scientists and the company believes that the new technology will help farmers conquer the challenge of growing food sustainably at affordable prices.<\/p>\n \u00a0RoadBib lends special support to John Deee<\/strong><\/p>\n Michelin\u2019s RoadBib tyre range will be given an eye-catching outing at LAMMA \u201818 \u2013 taking pride of place fitted to John Deere\u2019s new 6250R tractor.<\/p>\n The new generation of agricultural tyre, co-designed by Michelin and agricultural contractors, is the first ever fitment for 200+hp tractors to provide high performance, longevity and traction on machines used intensively on roads.<\/p>\n Michelin\u2019s challenge was to propose a solution that would work mainly on tarmac and hard soil roads, providing high traction and long life, whilst also working well in soft soil fields.<\/p>\n To achieve this the Michelin RoadBib features a brand-new tread design \u2013 the first time the company has produced an agricultural tyre which is not \u2018lugged\u2019 in the traditional sense. Formed of 52 blocks to maximise traction, coupled with a central spine, it allows 40 per cent of the tyre to remain in contact with the road surface \u2013 a 60 per cent increase on a typical lugged agricultural tyre \u2013 increases driver comfort and delivers around 25 per cent additional tyre life*.<\/p>\n Michelin will be displaying its full range of Ultraflex products at LAMMA \u201818.
