{"id":13458,"date":"2016-02-09T14:53:23","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T13:53:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/?p=13458"},"modified":"2016-03-08T17:56:51","modified_gmt":"2016-03-08T16:56:51","slug":"quality-performance-from-the-michelinpilot-sport-ev","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/index.php\/quality-performance-from-the-michelinpilot-sport-ev\/13458","title":{"rendered":"Quality performance from the MichelinPilot Sport EV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Round four of the 2015\/2016 FIA Formula E Championship in the centre of Buenos Aires took place in glorious summer weather as Michelin\u2019s tyres provided another faultless performance in the Argentine capital.<\/span><\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13459\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Michelin-Argentina-copy.jpg\" alt=\"Michelin Argentina copy\" width=\"615\" height=\"410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Michelin-Argentina-copy.jpg 615w, https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Michelin-Argentina-copy-120x80.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Michelin-Argentina-copy-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Michelin-Argentina-copy-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/>The major challenge faced by the teams, drivers and tyres was naturally the heat as the thermometer climbed to 32\u00b0C and the temperature of the exacting track \u2013 which comprised a cocktail of hairpins, chicanes and faster portions \u2013 soared to 48\u00b0C.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The conditions were similar to those of last year\u2019s race in Buenos Aires, although marginally cooler since we had air and track temperatures of 35\u00b0C and 54\u00b0C in 2015,\u201d notes Serge Grisin, manager of Michelin\u2019s Formula E programme. \u201cThe Argentine ePrix was the 15th race since the championship was introduced and the MichelinPilot Sport EV has delivered satisfactory performance each time, from the chilly streets we encountered in Moscow to the stifling humidity of Malaysia and the searing heat in Buenos Aires. Our tyre\u2019s operating window is very broad and, if you dial in the fact that it is also capable of ensuring safe performance in wet weather, the MichelinPilot Sport EV stands out as motor racing\u2019s most versatile tyre, not to mention the aggressive surface we faced in Berlin, the concrete slabs in Miami and the polished asphalt of Monaco.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">A welcome cool breeze blew over the circuit just as the Buenos Aires ePrix was about to start at 4pm Saturday local time. S\u00e9bastien Buemi was forced to start from the back of the grid after a straight-on ruined his qualifying run but the Swiss driver went on to perform an exceptional fightback in his Renault e.dams. By the 10-lap mark, the championship leader \u2013 who clearly had the utmost confidence in his car and tyres \u2013 had progressed from 18th to ninth place as DS-Virgin Racing\u2019s Sam Bird successfully defended first place despite the constant threat of Lucas Di Grassi (Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport), with Jean-Eric Vergne (DS-Virgin Racing) also showing well. These three drivers all benefitted from the race\u2019s FanBoost internet vote which gave them an extra burst of power for a period of five seconds. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">At the halfway point, the top three featured Bird, Nicolas Prost (Renault e.dams) and Di Grassi, chased by St\u00e9phane Sarrazin (Venturi) and Buemi, now up to fifth. The order underwent further changes during the race\u2019s second half, however, as Prost spun on Lap 20 and Buemi eased past Sarrazin with 12 laps remaining before picking off Di Grassi to go second with five laps left.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">He then piled the pressure on Bird but the Briton held firm to earn DS Virgin Racing\u2019s first Formula E success. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">We were already aware that the MichelinPilot Sport EV is capable of delivering high performance from start to finish with no fall off,\u201d observed Serge Grisin. \u201cBut in addition to incredible pace we saw in Argentina, it is important to remember that the power output of this season\u2019s cars has been raised from 150 to 170kW and that J\u00e9r\u00f4me D\u2019Ambrosio (Dragon Racing) posted the fastest race lap in the final quarter of the distance (Lap 29).
