Goodyear Dunlop employees could soon be swapping their cars and office chairs for bicycles after the tyre manufacturer became the latest company to sign-up as a corporate member of international transport development charity, Transaid.<\/p>\n

Goodyear Dunlop will support a number of Transaid\u2019s projects including professional driver training programmes and maternal health projects. Its annual membership contribution will provide the charity with essential unrestricted funds, which can be put towards the testing and implementation of new programmes and transport systems in Africa, aimed at improving road safety and access to healthcare and livelihoods.<\/p>\n
On top of the annual financial contribution, Goodyear Dunlop is donating an additional \u00a35,000 to support the charity\u2019s MORE MAMaZ programme in Zambia, which aims to increase the use of maternal and newborn health services among rural communities. The money will fund another bicycle ambulance, provide protective clothing for the emergency transport volunteers and fund vehicle maintenance, training and support for the next 12 months.<\/p>\n
Marc Preedy, Commercial Director at Goodyear Dunlop says: \u201cTransaid is an inspirational organisation to be involved with. One of the main reasons we decided to become a corporate member was the innovative approach the charity takes in enabling remote communities to access healthcare services.<\/p>\n

Transaid, which enjoys the patronage of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, aims to improve people\u2019s quality of life in the developing world by making transport more available and affordable. It was founded by Save the Children and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) in 1998.<\/p>\n
Its core work includes creating transport management systems for the public sector and assisting with the provision of professional driving qualification development and the training of driver trainers. It also assists with teaching preventive vehicle maintenance management through community managed transport and introducing local, low cost transport solutions including its innovative bicycle ambulance.<\/p>\n
