Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) calls on the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government (DoEHLG) to honour the commitment given\u00a0to conduct a study on proposed legislation changes<\/p>\n

\nThe Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) acknowledges the current PRI model being proposed by the\u00a0DoEHLG was not agreed to and does not\u00a0have the support of the tyre industry.

\nThe National Executive Council of the ITIA decided the next steps for the ITIA are:
\n\u00a0
\n1.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Promoting the industry solution to the management of waste tyres which is:
\n\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0An industry supported compliance scheme that tracks the movement of tyres;
\n\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Limited number of approved waste collectors operating in an open market; and
\n\u00b7\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Development of a fund to clean up historical stockpiles of waste tyres.

\n2.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0The ITIA has hired a solicitor, Brendan Slattery of Barry Doyle & Company, who specialises in Irish\u00a0Environmental Law, to provide guidance to the ITIA. Brendan Slattery is formerly from Arthur Cox\u00a0Solicitors and current\u00a0clients include\u00a0the main regulatory bodies in Ireland.

\n3.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0The ITIA calls on the DoEHLG to honour the commitment given to conduct a \u2018Regulatory Impact\u00a0Assessment (RIA)\u2019. The RIA is required to be done by the Department of the Taoiseach where there are\u00a0changes in legislation that will have a significant effect on the way the waste and tyre industry\u00a0operates. An RIA typically examines proposed legislative changes to assess the financial impacts on\u00a0businesses.

\nThe ITIA remains committed to support a fit for purpose compliance scheme for waste tyres.
