Included in that update were items which had not been agreed previously with the Tyres Working Group, such as the introduction of an Environmental Management Charge (vEMC) and whether the vEMC would be introduced using a front loaded or back loaded model. The DoECLG outlined that they were seeking the views of the members of the Tyres Working Group in relation to these issues. .

On 1st of September a newsletter was published by the DoECLG which confirmed further discussions were to take place- “In the near future it is proposed to seek the views of the members of the Tyres Working Group on the level of the visible Environmental Management Charge (vEMC) to be introduced and whether the vEMC will be introduced using a front loaded or back loaded model”.

Without any further discussions taking place with the Tyres Working Group, the ITIA received an email from the DoECLG on 3rd September stating that it is intention of the DoEHLG to recommend to the Minister that the level of vEMC for car tyres should be set at €2.80 and that the funding should be based on a front loaded model. As a result, the NEC felt the ITIA could no longer participate in discussions and voted to withdraw.

The NEC of the ITIA has always engaged fully and positively in all committees and working groups related to the establishment of a new compliance scheme for waste tyres. Representatives of the ITIA have attended numerous committee/sub group meetings to date.
The ITIA is committed to the introduction of a fit for purpose compliance scheme for the industry that ensures that we meet all our environmental commitments.

Next Steps
The NEC of the ITIA will be meeting on the 24th of September to discuss the ITIA’s next steps in relation to the compliance scheme for waste tyres. After the NEC meeting the ITIA will issue a clear message to its members.
I thank members for their patience in this regard. The ITIA welcomes any views and correspondence on this matter to percy@itia.ie. Any feedback will be circulated to the NEC.

TyreTrade.ie has received the following statement this afternoon The Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) has written to members clarifying its position following its decision to withdraw from discussions with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government (DoECLG) on the proposed waste tyre compliance scheme.

[654,1

post-12228","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-irish-news","category-news
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.5 -
