20,000 Irish retailers will see their red tape burden slashed on foot of\u00a0Government signing a contract with An Post and its technology partner Escher\u00a0Groups.<\/p>\n
The new licensing portal will allow retailers to register and apply for\u00a0licences they are obliged to have for trading purposes in one location thus\u00a0reducing dramatically the amount of time in form filling required to comply\u00a0with various licensing obligations.<\/p>\n
Following a review of the multiplicity of licences required by the business\u00a0sector, the Government committed that all relevant licensing authorities\u00a0would proceed towards the development of an integrated licensing\u00a0application system – a one-stop application portal, amalgamating licence\u00a0applications for business across government departments, agencies and\u00a0licensing authorities, thereby significantly reducing the administrative\u00a0burden.<\/p>\n
Minister Bruton welcomed today\u2019s announcement: \u201cThis announcement is a\u00a0major step towards creating a one-stop licensing application portal which\u00a0should significantly reduce the administrative burden on business. I am\u00a0very conscious of the time businesses spend on the various licences\u00a0applications required by Government and agencies and this initiative is in\u00a0response to business demands. By streamlining this system it goes some\u00a0way towards our goal of making Ireland the best small country in the world\u00a0in which to do business.\u201d<\/p>\n
Minister Nash, Chair of the ILAS Steering Group, said: \u201cThis has the\u00a0potential to be a significant step in reducing the administrative burden\u00a0for business particularly for small businesses and start-ups. As the\u00a0Minister with responsibility for SMEs, the feedback I often get from\u00a0entrepreneurs is that while we have made significant strides in reforming\u00a0and reducing bureaucracy for business, there is still too much red tape.\u00a0The new system will save time for businesses and make
\nit easier to apply\u00a0for and renew licenses.\u201d<\/p>\n
The system will be delivered, in the first instance for the retail sector\u00a0which includes\u00a029 core licences across 40 public sector licensing\u00a0authorities, including over 30 local authorities. Each retailer will be\u00a0able to apply for a variety of licences on the new portal including Gaming\u00a0Licences, Street furniture licences, Wine Retailers, Beers and Spirits,\u00a0WEEE Licence, Food Business Operator, Casual Traders.<\/p>\n
This is a key deliverable under the Government\u2019s Action Plan for Jobs.<\/p>\n
An Post and Escher in conjunction with the licensing authorities are\u00a0currently putting the system in place to allow all licences to be available\u00a0on the portal for the retail sector by December this year.<\/p>\n
It is envisaged that this System will then be expanded to include other\u00a0licences of key sectors of the economy and involve other licensing\u00a0authorities as the
