{"id":11577,"date":"2015-06-17T11:15:10","date_gmt":"2015-06-17T10:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/?p=11577"},"modified":"2015-06-17T11:17:11","modified_gmt":"2015-06-17T10:17:11","slug":"gers-american-dream-a-reality-after-bridgestone-golf-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/index.php\/gers-american-dream-a-reality-after-bridgestone-golf-success\/11577","title":{"rendered":"Ger\u2019s American dream a reality after Bridgestone golf success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An amateur Dublin golfer will be swapping his Carton House club surroundings for the Firestone Country Club in Ohio, after winning a prestigious Bridgestone golf competition at The Belfry.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11578\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11578\" style=\"width: 615px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11578\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Bridgestone-Belfry.jpg\" alt=\"Farrell Dolan, Consumer Director of Sales and Marketing, Bridgestone North Region and Ger Breen, Atlas Auto Service.\" width=\"615\" height=\"410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Bridgestone-Belfry.jpg 615w, https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Bridgestone-Belfry-120x80.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.tyretrade.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Bridgestone-Belfry-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11578\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Farrell Dolan, Consumer Director of Sales and Marketing, Bridgestone North Region and Ger Breen, Atlas Auto Service.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ger Breen overcame the odds \u2013 and the weather \u2013 by winning the Bridgestone Amateur Golf Championship last weekend, which paves the way for a trip to the prestigious Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, where he will actually play a round himself before the competition begins on August 6.<\/p>\n<p>The 48 year-old from Terenure won a qualifying event to earn a place at the final of the Bridgestone Amateur Golf event at the Belfry and went on to win it outright with a stableford score of 34.<\/p>\n<p>Ger, who is a partner at two Atlas Autocentres in Sandyford and Blanchardstown, said he was \u2018absolutely over the moon\u2019 to triumph and be given a money-can\u2019t-buy prize of a visit to a tournament won by Rory McIlroy in 2014.<br \/>\n\u201cPlaying at the Belfry was a magical experience in itself, but to go on and win the event and such a phenomenal prize like a trip to America is a dream come true,\u201d Ger said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conditions were challenging and the course was long, so while I thought I had half a chance of winning with my score, you just never know in golf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe event was brilliantly organised and I can\u2019t thank everyone at Bridgestone enough for the way they looked after us and made us all feel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A trip to the Bridgestone Invitational, a World Golf Championship (WGC) event now lies in wait, which world number one Rory McIlroy won 12 months ago.<\/p>\n<p>The Bridgestone Amateur Golf Championship event allowed Bridgestone to showcase its portfolio of premium tyre products, whilst forging a closer link between the automotive world and golf, where Bridgestone is an equally big name.<\/p>\n<p>Bridgestone\u2019s consumer sales and marketing director Farrell Dolan said: \u201cBridgestone is already strongly associated with golfing products but as the world\u2019s largest tyre manufacturer, we really wanted to connect with a wider audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe couldn\u2019t be more delighted for Ger. He was great company over the weekend and a lovely man. He was a fitting winner and we hope he has a wonderful time in Ohio in August.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the Belfry final, Bridgestone offered golfers the chance to be fitted for the golf ball most suited to their game.
