Producers and suppliers of tyres have been reminded that they must either be registered with an approved compliance scheme (only TRACS has a current approval) or with their local authority as a self-complier until a new compliance scheme comes into place later this year.<\/p>\n

Before Christmas, the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government (DECLG) confirmed that it is working towards introducing a new compliance scheme for the tyre industry during 2015.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued to the Tyre Trade Journal the Department said the \u201cbroad scope\u201d of the scheme would be announced in the New Year ahead of \u201cdetailed consultations with industry on designing the specific operational parameters of the scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tyre producers and suppliers must remain compliant until the scheme comes into place, the Department said. <\/p>\n

The statement continued: ‘While the broad scope of the new scheme will be announced early in the New Year ahead of detailed consultations with industry on designing the specific operational parameters of the scheme focusing, in particular on enforcement arrangements, timescale for introduction, and reporting, it is important to note that until the new scheme is in place and fully operational, existing compliance requirements as set out under the 2007 Regulations continue to apply.\u201d

\nThe statement concluded: \u201cThis means that producers and suppliers of tyres must either be registered with an approved compliance scheme (only TRACS has a current approval) or with their local authority as a self-complier.
