Just before Christmas Britain’s Transport secretary announced a massive \u00a36bn fund to help tackle potholes and\u00a0improve local roads\u00a0over the next six years. This is the kind of planning that we should be seeing here as our economy recovers.

The investment of close to \u00a31bn a year will target fixing an estimated 18 million potholes on local roads in Britain.<\/p>\n
\u00a0This new initiative where the British Government has given councils locked-in funding over\u00a0a prolonged period of time. This will allow them to plan\u00a0ahead,\u00a0put an end to short term\u00a0fixes, and\u00a0it is expected to result in cost saving for\u00a0the taxpayer.<\/p>\n
Over \u00a34.7bn will be shared between 115 councils, while a further \u00a3575m\u00a0will be available through a new\u00a0challenge fund to help repair and\u00a0maintain local highway infrastructure such as junctions, bridges and\u00a0street\u00a0lighting.<\/p>\n
Another good idea that should be followed is \u00a3578m has been set aside in the UK for an\u00a0incentive fund scheme which will start in\u00a02016 to reward councils who\u00a0demonstrate they are delivering value for money in carrying out cost\u00a0effective\u00a0improvements.<\/p>\n
