Pulling power to beat horsepower in aid of charity
It normally takes a lot of horsepower to move a Volvo truck, but four local men had other ideas this week at the Modern Tyre depot on Strand Road, Derry.

Depot manager Paul Leonard and Paddy Wilson from Foyle Search and Rescue enlisted the help of David Fox and Ray Mc Daid from Progym to prove that it was possible to move the truck using only manpower.
The short haul effort was used to announce the major family fun day charity event scheduled for Saturday, August 25 when the Volvo truck will be pulled in teams of four from the Modern Tyre depot along the Strand Road into the city. For those who don’t want to exert themselves with the truck pull there will also be a bed push, which will be just as much fun but not as sore on the muscles.
All money raised will be donated to Foyle Search and Rescue and the Sperrin Ward in Altnagelvin Hospital. The event will start at 11am at Modern Tyre Services premises on the Strand Road and finish at around 3pm. Everybody is welcome to come and watch the teams take up their challenge. There will be a bouncy castle and face painting for children as well as a Formula 1 simulator for the big kids with prizes for the fastest times.
If you are interested in taking part please call into Modern Tyre Service on the Strand Road where sponsorship forms are available or you can download a form from their Facebook page www.facebook.com/moderntyres
