Pirelli helps Porsche smash world record

Pirelli attended last weekend’s Silverstone Classic where the Italian tyre firm sponsored a record-breaking parade of more than 1,000 Porsche 911s as they all took to the track simultaneously to celebrate 50 years of the iconic sports car.

Firmly established as the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, this year’s Silverstone Classic attracted tens of thousands of spectators and a host of big names including Prince Edward and Sir Jackie Stewart.

Pirelli attended the three-day extravaganza to lend its support to Porsche Club Great Britain as part of a new partnership agreement signed earlier this year which stipulated that Pirelli will financially support Porsche Club GB, as well as provide the Club with tyres and on-event expertise.

Huge crowds turned up to the home of the British Grand Prix on Sunday 28 July to watch a glittering display of 1,208 Porsche 911s, which included an array of Carrera, GT, RS, RSR, Speedster, Targa and turbo variants take part in a record-breaking parade. The display also helped raised funds for national cancer charity, Hope for Tomorrow.

As well as sponsoring the Porsche 911 parade and supplying each participant with a special plaque, Pirelli also brought its F1 simulator and hospitality unit along to the annual three-day event. The firm ran a number of competitions with prizes including drive experience days at race circuits throughout the UK.
