Deane gets ticket to ride in Liverpool drift extravaganza

Falken Tyre drift driver James Deane will compete in the Red Bull Drift Shifters 2018, a new UK drifting event that will take place on the streets of Liverpool’s city centre on August 19.
Deane, who is currently leading the 2018 Drift Masters European Championship and the 2018 Formula Drift Pro Championship after claiming the title last season, will compete in the shadow of the city’s famous Royal Liver Building in his 550hp Falken-liveried Mazda RX-7.

Designed to remove any uncertainty in drift judging decisions, drivers must show off their skills on a custom-built track rigged with high-tech speed and proximity sensors. The drivers will be scored on speed and precision as they move around the course, getting as close as possible to the sensors.

Falken drift driver Deane will be joined by a host of world-class drifters, including ‘Mad Mike’ Whiddett. He is the brain behind the event, with the first held in ‘Mad Mike’s’ native New Zealand back in 2012. The event now goes international with it arriving on UK shores for the first time this year.

“I’m really excited to be competing in the Red Bull Drift Shifters event,” said Deane. “As I’m currently drifting in the US and Europe, I don’t get the chance to compete in front of a UK crowd as much as I’d like. Drifting through the centre of Liverpool is an amazing opportunity and I’m looking forward to putting on a good show for the visitors in my Falken RX-7.”
