ContiWinterContact TS 850 wins winter tyre test
Continental’s ContiWinterContact TS 850 has won a winter tyre test conducted by German trade journal auto motor und sport.
Winning 277 of a possible 300 points, it achieved the top rating (“highly recommended”). In this latest test (issue 20/2013), it beats seven competitor winter tyre models in size 225/50 R 17 standing.
The experts tested a total of 15 different driving and handling properties of tyres on snow as well as on wet and dry roads. Rolling resistance and pass-by noise were also factored into the final score.
During braking on snow-covered and wet roads and in terms of traction on snow, the ContiWinterContact TS 850 was among the best. It also achieved an outstanding score for its handling and lateral stability on wet roads and during aquaplaning. Its balanced handling characteristics also came in for special praise.
Achieving 99 out of 100 points for its wet-road performance and 95 out of 100 points for its snow performance, the tyre – which was launched in 2012 – achieved the highest overall score with a clear lead over its rivals.
