Aegerter breaks Mireval lap record on Dunlop test

Dunlop has carried out extensive analysis on data from a tyre test carried out at the Mireval circuit at the end of July. During that test Dominique Aegerter broke the Moto2 lap record for the circuit by nine-tenths of second.

A tyre test to continue work on the Moto2 range included work on tyre stress and a new rear tyre specification for 2014 or possibly during the remaining races in 2013 with Aegerter from Moto2 riding in addition to the Dunlop test team with Stefan Nebel and two riders from the IDM championship. The tyre has previously been tested by Rabat and Terol in Argentina.

Conclusions from the test included the confirmation of the new rear specification and the deduction that some tyre stress experienced this season may be due to bike developments since 2012 including a different clutch which stresses the tyre more due to increased braking into corners.

Dominique helped us out at short notice and interrupted his holiday to test with us. He did everything we needed him to do and we have a much better understanding of how we want to progress.

We are developing our 2014 tyres now, at the same time as the bike manufacturers are working on their development, and it’s only when we get the new machines on the new tyres that we can see the full impact. Added to that, there are only certain circuits that are very aggressive on tyres and push them closer to the limits which then helps us understand the stresses from changes to the machines. On top of that we’ve got lap times that are increasing and different lean angles depending on the riders to factor in. I’m happy that we know much more about what’s happening because of the test and that the riders confirmed our new tyre too.”
