iON Race delivers across the 2026 Hankook Berlin E-Prix

Hankook, the exclusive tyre supplier to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, equipped all teams as the series staged the 2026 Hankook Berlin E-Prix at the Tempelhof Airport Circuit.

The double-header weekend produced two tactically demanding races shaped by the circuit’s abrasive concrete surface and flowing 15-corner layout.

Rounds 7 and 8 of Season 12 were held across two days on the 2.374 km Tempelhof Circuit, where the coarse concrete apron placed a premium on tyre management and energy efficiency. The anticlockwise layout offered frequent overtaking opportunities, while ATTACK MODE activation at Turn 2 introduced an additional strategic dimension across both races.

In Round 7, Nico Müller (Porsche Formula E Team) secured his first Formula E victory, establishing a clear gap to finish ahead of Nick Cassidy (Citroen Racing) and Oliver Rowland (Nissan Formula E Team), with his race defined by consistent energy management and measured execution across the distance.

In Round 8, Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) claimed the win from the back of the grid, making a decisive move in the closing stages to finish ahead of Oliver Rowland and Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche Formula E Team).

Throughout both races, Hankook supplied its iON Race tyre, which delivered consistent performance with controlled degradation and dependable grip as track conditions evolved. Tempelhof’s abrasive surface subjects the compound to sustained wear over the race distance, requiring stable thermal behaviour and predictable handling from start to finish.

The double-header format placed additional demands on tyre consistency, with teams adapting strategies between Saturday and Sunday as track conditions and rubber build-up changed.

“The Berlin double-header confirmed the resilience of the iON Race under some of the most demanding surface conditions in Formula E,” said Manfred Sandbichler, senior director of Hankook Motorsport. “Running two races at Tempelhof provided valuable insight into how the tyre responds to sustained abrasion across a full race weekend. The competitive racing and strategic variation across both days reflected the tyre’s ability to operate within a broad performance window.”

Beyond the on-track action, Hankook Berlin E-Prix weekend drew strong fan engagement at Tempelhof. Hankook operated a Fan Village booth featuring interactive experiences and displays of iON tyres fitted to electric vehicles, offering visitors a closer look at its EV tyre technology.

In collaboration with DS Automobiles, the brand’s latest vehicle, DS N°7, was showcased for the first time at the booth. This display gave fans a closer look at cutting-edge electric vehicle technology, further connecting Formula E’s on-track performance with real-world EV innovation.

With Rounds 7 and 8 completed in Berlin, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues its Season 12 campaign heading into the second half of the season with Monaco next up on the calendar on 16th and 17th May.
