TyreTrade.ie survey on proposed Government PRI for waste tyres completed
The TyreTrade.ie survey on the proposed Government PRI for waste tyres closed yesterday at 1pm. There was an impressive response with 292 people completing the short confidential survey and that included 214 that are members of one of the two trade associations (the ITIA and the ITWRA) and 78 that are not members of a trade association. These will be confirmed before the breakdown is published in the next issue of the Tyre Trade Journal, which is currently being prepared.
So far 92.5 per cent say that they are aware of the proposed full Producer Responsibility Initiative, and 7.5 per cent are not. 84 per cent say that they understand what a PRI for tyres is about, with12.5 per cent saying they do not. Over 3.5pc didn’t answer this question.
In answer to the question – Are you in favour of this proposed full PRI for tyres? – 72 per cent say ‘No’ and 28 per cent say ‘Yes’. Then of those that said ‘No’, we ask them the question – Would you prefer the existing open market system, just over 95 per cent of those say ‘Yes’, with just under 5 per cent say ‘No’.
There was a facility then on this question for those that selected ‘No’. They are asked to elaborate and the overwhelming support by those is in favour of the UK like system and/or for the retention of the current open market / TRACS system but with the addition of proper levels of enforcement.
On the issue of pricing (including VAT) for consumers to pay for the disposal and recycling of one car tyres, the following were the selected options:
Under €1 : 61%
€1.50 : 18%
€2.00: 18%
€2,50: 3%
€3.00: Nil
More than €3.00: Nil.
N.B. – 290 out of 292 people answered this question
The full results will be published in the next issue of the Tyre Trade Journal later this month.
