This Saturday is International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is tomorrow. Here at Automotive Publications, we celebrate all the incredible women working in the auto and transport sectors today and all that will join them in the coming years.
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8th March throughout the world to mark women’s political, economic and social achievements and to mark women’s struggle for equality and justice.
The auto and transport industries on the island of Ireland are evolving, and there is an increasing focus on gender diversity and inclusion in both. However, while this transformation is encouraging, progress is still too slow.
Outdated stereotypes and barriers against the driving of meaningful change still exist.
It is very important that everyone in positions of responsibility champion an inclusive culture. We have a moral obligation to foster policies of fairness and equity, where the best person gets the job and all workers are treated equally in every workplace, regardless of gender.
To that end, where women are massively under-represented in any workforce, a sustained effort aimed at attracting and retaining talented women should be considered. This would foster a commitment to a more diverse workforce where ability is given every chance and rewarded when it is proven.
Women must be given access to the same opportunities as their male counterparts without barriers. The end-game is a level playing field where talent is the defining factor – and not their gender.
Have a great International Women’s Day!
