Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), manufacturer of the Falken tyre brand, recently began proof-of-concept testing for a new kind of tyre pressure management solutions service that remotely monitors tyre pressure and temperature.
Through this testing project, SRI will evaluate the overall effectiveness of this service when it comes to supporting safer driving, as well as its specific effectiveness in terms of reducing maintenance time and workload, preventing operator error. SRI says the project will help the firm achieve its ultimate aim of establishing a business model that helps to enhance the safety and economy of driving.
This round of proof-of-concept testing involves the tyre maker introducing its new service for remotely monitoring tyre pressure and temperature to 530 vehicles operating across two vehicle leasing firms in Japan.
This service makes it possible to directly view data collected by the TPMS installed in each tyre from anywhere in the world via the Cloud, which not only reduces tyre maintenance workload, but also helps to ensure that tyre pressure is maintained at appropriate levels. This contributes to improved fuel economy, safer driving and greater overall peace of mind.
SRI adds it also hopes to evaluate various ways of refining the overall quality and convenience of this service by allowing customers of the vehicle leasing firms to view the latest measurement data through a personalised customer website in order to collect feedback.
